Welcome to the *Malloch Society website

The aim of the society is to improve the knowledge and awareness of Diptera (Two winged flies). Based in Scotland we focussed originally on Scottish and British Diptera, but over the last 30 years we have developed projects in Europe and in other parts of the world.

Using a team-based approach we have concentrated on building knowledge of the taxonomy, ecology and distributions of saproxylic Diptera (Diptera associated with dead wood). In particular we have developed techniques to asses the biodiversity, status and management requirements of rare and endangered species.

Use the  Main Topic Index  on the right of this page to explore our projects.

*The Malloch Society was formed in 1988 by a group of Scottish Dipterists. The society is named in honour of John Russell Malloch (1875 - 1963) one of Scotland’s most eminent Dipterists.
